Embrace Decay

59degrees
Concept

59degrees mission is to simplify and accelerate your transition towards naturally resilient and restorative cultivation systems. Weather it is through educational programs, consulting services, or microbial products help farmers build thriving soils that elicit higher-yielding, disease-resistant crops.

The brief we got from 59degrees was to create brand awareness and a new concept for the brand.
From the start I wanted to do something that really show off what good soil really is.

When talking about farming or planting it is always the plant that gets all the attention. But the soil is the hidden hero. Life starts from the soil and soil starts with decay.

Good soil is worm-filled, nasty, dark and decaying and we wanted to show how beautiful this can be. Embrace Decay is all about putting the soil in the spotlight for a change and showing off its beautiful nastiest.

This project was our final project at Berghs School of Communication. 59degrees liked the concept so much and have now implemented it to their brand. I have continued to work with them as freelancing Art Director and Designer.

Manifest

Decay is not the opposite of life, but a prerequisite for it. Especially when it comes to soil.

Decaying, nasty, worm-filled, and thriving soil hosts microorganisms that are essential, not only for the decomposition of organic matte, but for the growth and prosperity of life. They weave the foundation for a continued and thriving biological diversity, which is vital to plants and animals that depend on the ecosystems they inhabit.

In essence, life starts from the soil up. And soil starts with decay.

But there's a catch, a non negotiable, really. These crucial microorganisms can only thrive in biologically sound, untampered conditions; untilled soils, free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. This is why we want home growers and farmers alike to embrace the natural, beautiful, glorious process of decomposition, as well as all the germs, fungi, and creepy crawlers that, in the end, make sustainable life possible.
